Mementos Policy
The Cheltenham & Regional Cemeteries Trust is committed to maintaining our cemeteries and memorial gardens to a high standard. Our mementos policy has been developed with input from members of the Trust and the community.
Consideration has been given to safety issues for cemetery visitors, staff maintenance and the overall landscape.
The following is permitted within our cemeteries:
- Access to the cemetery by normal passenger vehicles
- Natural and artificial flowers in good condition placed in vases provided by the cemetery
- Approved memorials
- Small unbreakable mementos placed onto your memorial
- All monuments and plaques constructed according to the Monumental Regulations published by The Cheltenham & Regional Cemeteries Trust (a copy of the regulations can be obtained from the cemetery office)
The following is not permitted within our cemeteries:
- Breakable items left at graves and memorial sites that could cause injury if damaged or caught under mowers or edge trimming equipment
- Items left at memorials that, if fallen on might cause injury to a person
- Flowers and other items placed in vases not provided by the cemetery will be removed at the discretion of cemetery staff
- All glass items and other unapproved or potentially dangerous items
- Alcohol left at memorial sites
- Items in disrepair such as fans, figurines, dolls, containers, etc
- Plantings other than those provided by the cemetery
- Any mementos placed in the lawn or gardens surrounding the memorial
Please note: All items not permitted will be removed during our regular maintenance cycle.
The Cheltenham & Regional Cemeteries Trust reserves the right to change regulations at its discretion and reserves the right to specify different regulations and restrict the use of monuments and memorials in defined areas of the cemetery.
The Trust understands that you may wish to acknowledge an anniversary or other significant event by placing a special item at the memorial site. During such occasions, balloons, cards and similar are allowed for a 14 day period but we ask that you please notify the cemetery office first.
